Ann-Sofie Back has been called Sweden’s most influential fashion designer, known for her subversive and thought-provoking designs that often draw on clichés surrounding femininity, shame, and failed glamour. She presented her collections from across her entire fashion career in Go As You Please – Ann-Sofie Back 1998–2018, an exhibition that filled Liljevalchs+ in the autumn of 2024. Ann-Sofie Back earned her master’s degree from Central Saint Martins in 1998. Since then, she has created collections under her own name until 2018. Her work has been shown at fashion weeks in London and Paris and sold in stores across the globe. Remarkably, her design archive has remained almost completely intact since she began designing in 1998. Back’s work has drawn inspiration from stereotypical notions of beauty, taste, femininity, social phenomena, and fashion as a tool for status — exploring the transformative powers of style. Her creations have been exhibited at prominent museums and galleries worldwide.
